pumpkin spice, everything nice

i grew up in new york, and labor day weekend was definitely *the end of summer.* school started shortly afterwards, and i remember wearing sweaters and knee socks, eating baked potatoes wrapped in foil at the saturday football games, jumping in the most color-filled piles of leaves you can imagine.

i haven't lived in new york in quite a while, and the transition into fall must be one of the things i miss the most. more often than not, here in coastal nc, we are still pushing 90 humid degrees well into october. not much foliage here to turn into lovely yellows and browns and reds (we have too many evergreens near the coast.)

over the years, i have developed my own way of welcoming *fall* back into my world. i don't wait for the autumnal equinox. no, not me. september first is the day! the day i light the pumpkin spice candle for the first time!!

slowly but surely, i will bring out my fall decor: pumpkins and pine cones will begin to replace the stars and stripes of summer. the path through fall and into the holidays is stretched out before me. it is my favorite time of year, by far.

happy pumpkin spice candle day!!

I notice you have even changed your font color to fally orange. (It is changed right?)

I love fall too, love the smells and colors, but then when I am still sweating at Thanksgiving I get a little glum. No seasons for us here.

Tonight is our first football game, I now deem Sep 1 official fall tradition day here too!

I'm glad to be caught up with you, and also miss the changing of leaves and chill in the air-we have neither in here in the desert! I also will pull out decor and at least have fall exist in my home. And, I hope you were able to rid yourself of the friend in the pool at work- bizarre!!

I'm never able to make the mental switch on the seasons until the weather starts to cooperate, that's why I never understand how people in California are able to do it. I guess they get used to it and don't need Mother Nature's cues, but I do.

Hey, I didn't know it was an official day. I lit my vanilla spice candle ysterday too. I love holidays. I think this one should be made a national holiday.

LOL at your pumpkin candle! Does anyone else in your family notice your candle changeover, or is it your own little 'thing'?

I can send you some English leaves if you want, Lelly! We get knee-deep in the blighters here.

I need autumn. I need all the seasons actually. I would go completly batty in a place with a consistant summer. Summer is great, but I need it all.

My favourite part of fall isn't the colours, although they are beautiful. It is the smell outside. The crisp smell that you can almost taste. It is my favourite.

Absolutely, fall begins September 1st! Good idea to creat your own fall feeling around your house when nature doesn't do it for you in your area.

Fall is my favorite. We have to wait until the end of October, but I still love it. And the pumpkin spice smell sounds delightful.
