spt

i tend to think of twilight as a very romantic time of the day. and cooler. it's supposed to be cooler!! (growing up in ny, and spending my summers in massachusetts, twilight still meant we often brought out the windbreakers or the hooded sweatshirts.)

i fantasize that twilight is full of fireflies and endless games of "kick the can." a cool summer dinner of tuna salad or gazpacho has been put away, and dessert is full of berries and frozen things. neighbors greet each other over backyard fences, and children look forward to lukewarm baths and starry skies.

last night's twilight was full of houseflies and "kung fu panda." turkey burgers cooked in the cast iron because it was too hot to stand outside and grill. mat sweating in the garage, trying to replace a few sparkplugs in the car. jack trying to set a record for the world's shortest shower. and instead of gazing up at a starry sky, we fell asleep under the glow of the TV.

i did sneak outside to snap a few photos.

there is certainly nothing *gleaming* about this twilight. but i love this old mirror, and the hazy reflection it casts does a real justice to how hazy it felt sitting on the front porch. sort of reflects my mood, too.

but, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave? you bet it does!

Love the mirror! Is it actually on your porch? I feel like we waste away a lot of perfect evenings, also- it just seems there is too many things going on and not enough time just to spend together enjoying each other!

I love your mirror too! I wish we had fireflies. Instead, we have the glow of the TV too!

Oh I love all the fun things that your twilight brings! That mirror is so cool...hazy, makes me think of humidity, something I am happy to live without! Though, I do miss those fireflies/lightening bugs as my kiddos called them.

I so miss fireflies. I grew up on the East Coast and in the Midwest where fireflies abound. We live in NM now and there are no fireflies at all. We took our kids back to the Midwest last summer and they loved the fireflies.

I added mine twice, sorry. The first one links to last weeks spt.

I love the picture with the mirror!

Your posts are alway so enjoyable to read. So descriptive.... I really like your take on this SPT. I might just post what I got, even though none of the photos include me.

I love what you had to say about twilight. It reminded me that when I grew up twilight always meant cooler weather and putting the sweatshirts on. What happened?

I love your hazy mirror, that's how my day dreams look.

Lelly, you create such an ambiance with your words. You're poetic.

I love your big flag hanging because it's so invigorating. I also love the mirror photo.

I can't believe your sweating back there. I'm soooo cold today. I've got all the heaters turned up.

great challenge for this month...it makes me feel all patriotic. my thoughts are torn between red/white&blue and summery fun!

Lelly, I love your twilight fantasy. It's mine, too. And I'm still jealous of your heat and sun. "Rain rain go away. Come again another year." That's tune I'm still singing. Seriously, it feels like February here. The news said we've had 11 sunny days in the last 5 months.

Great mirror. And porch? Love southern porches!

Lelly...
Love, love, love your imagery! You so described life in TN as a child in the 70's. aahhh....those were the days!
We still have fireflies but we call them "Lightnin' bugs"! I can still see my Mama flipping the porch light, telling me to come inside.
I have a sign that says "Cricket concert every night" that says it all about our farm.
I agree about the heat....it needs to be cooler, at least at night!
Love the mirror, too!

I like those fantasies. Especially frozen things and berries. I may just get a chance to take a photo tonight. Hopefully!

Ok Lelly,
I didn't actually do the SPT for today, but I had to share what my little boy has learned from watching his Momma do all the SPT's in the past! Enjoy!

I'm number 13 should I be worried. I saw your public service anouncement by went to sleep before sunset.
I haven't seen a firefly since I was a kid, I need to experience them again.

Love the beautiful mirror, and I am a little envious of your flag!

I LOVE this post. Just reading about your summer evenings has me thinking about my own summer evenings from days gone by.

It has been so hot this week, but nice weather is on its way tomorrow and we have a great Father's Day barbeque planned for Sunday.

Thanks for the memories. Now, I will try and figure out my camera and see if I can retrieve the pics from my more than complicated directions. (It's new)

Lelly, what a great writer you are! I have jumped off the SPT bandwagon for a bit but I still stop by and read your blog and I've been trying to comment too :)

Love the great picture of you in the mirror!

Is it weird that I've never seen a firefly? I think most of my summer memories revolve around swimming pools, homemade ice creams, and vacations to the mountains where it is cooler. I can remember sitting on the porch at my grandparent's cabin, watching it get dark, talking with family, and sometimes singing :)

Now you've got me in the mood to watch "Summer Magic"!

Your twilight fantasy sounds dreamy.
Here even after the sun goes down it is too hot -- but at least not humid!
The mirrow -- that is too cool.

You make me want to experience summer twilight everyday for the rest of my life, and live it as a kid. I love this time of year.

I loved the way you captured a summer night...and for whatever reason, that picture of the flag in the twilight just puts a lump in my throat.

I am insanely jealous of your fireflies!

That photo is very cool. I totally spaced yesterday! It looks like I need a makeup or even better a summary of the month!

I'm a day late and ALWAYS a dollar short. But, here I am. I LOVE that mirror and if we were neighbors I'd convince you it would look much better in my house. Could you send some fireflies my way? They don't do well in Florida but I sure do miss them!

Love the mirror

I love your capture of twilight. I used to love the movie Remains of the Day (haven't seen it in years!) and this twilight theme reminded me of it. But I'm having a serious SPT block, Lelly. It's pathetic. I so think about the challenge each week, then just go blank.

I am totally digging that mirror! Coveting, more like it. And your porch.
