spt

stars and/or stripes forever

the star i chose for this week is a symbol of one of those truths we hold to be self-evident; one of those rights that i, as many other americans, take for granted: our right of religious freedom.

here i am in my favorite tee shirt (the purchase of which was copied from not one, but two, of my sisters.) in addition to the star of David, there are six other religious symbols displayed in harmony. i'm sad to say that when i purchased this shirt, i didn't know what all of them were! (do you?)

i grew up in New York and Maryland, two places that are much more religiously diverse than the southeastern coast where i now reside. and certainly, the blogosphere has become a place where i have been able to explore and learn even more about my friends and their faiths. and while i know much about my own, and still little about all of the others, i love that i live in a country where it is safe to explore, lurk and learn from so many. do you identify with one of these symbols?

of course, i couldn't resist doing the stripes, too, and i must nod to that other right that i hold so dear:

the right to perform shamelessly in local community theatre productions!!

Hi Lelly,
I have been reading your blog for a while and decided to make it official. Thanks for making me think about taking more pictures! I will start today.

you did it! You pulled it together.
I too am so grateful for our religious freedom. The freedom to believe in what I want, and to let others do the same. That we don't all have to believe the same thing.

Great shirt! I love it. Cute hat, too. Cat in the Hat stripes?

That shirt is great. Sadly I don't know all of the symbols. I grew up somewhere that was not religiously diverse at all. Now I live somewhere that is, and am truly grateful for it. We are very blessed to have religious freedom in this country.

I don't recognize all of those symbols! But I certainly am thankful for religious freedoms... and one of these days I am gonna get caught up (or at least back on board!) with spt.

Worshipping is truly one of the greatest blessings of this land. Amen to that! And I LOVE the hat, you crazy cat!

i love that t-shirt! i remember the first time i saw that as a bumper sticker and i purposefully followed the car so i could try to decipher all the signs. i have to admit that the 'e' and the 'i' still elude me.

Great interpretation for this challenge! It's perfect.

I'm still mulling mine over, and will post soon. Although my SPT's rarely include a photo of me I like having a clever subject for a post.

Cat in the Hat stripes - of course!
And I love the t-shirt. I took a world religions course in college and it is still my favorite class I ever took.

Better late than never, right?!

I can't imagine living in a place where I couldn't choose how to worship or how to spend my free time. I feel so blessed to live in this great country!

Great post! I have to admit I don't know all of the symbols. I will find them now though. I do recognize the majority of them. Great freedom. Good luck with Cat in the Hat!

I loved your post, and I can say that I recognise about 4 of the symbols on your shirt, but I think you should write a post telling us all from left to right what the symbols are and what they represent - I would love to know the ones I dont recognise.

Thanks for a great read!!

That is a great shirt. But, no I don't know all of the symbols. Are the all religions? I thought one of them was just the sign for male and female. Is it religious too?

Great take on the day.

I've never seen some of those symbols before and never seen them all together on a shirt like that. Very interesting.

Clever t-shirt! Hello, by the way!

You're still looking glowing. Just had to let you know that Erin's still walking around saying 'When I marry Jack Erikson...'

Yipes! You know you'd all have to come over here for the wedding? Traditional to get married at the bride's church, yes? haha

Ditto to everything. And do you plan on filling us in on the meaning of all the symbols, I don't know them all myself either.
