camp out

cub scout camp outs are great. i mean, really great! especially for the one mom in attendance. it's like... like a little trip back into time before civilization began!

there will be lots of strange smells.
there may, or may not be, enough sleeping bags packed.
there will be things thrown onto the cooking fire. all sorts of things.
there will be messes, despite your best efforts.
the bacon will be smoked. definitely smoked.
there will not be *facilities.*
there will be bee bee guns, before 8 a.m.

but there will also be a kind father who fetches coffee for everyone.
and a husband who offers to "keep an eye out." you know, when you're using the *facilities.*
and no rain.
and seasonal temperatures.
and a family of three that thrives with only two sleeping bags.
and seven scouts who learn their skit, and track deer and play with abandon the way only young boys can play in the great outdoors.

and sticky marshmallow smiles... the morning after.

Brave, I would say! Good for you. You even make it sound fun, or funny at least. :-)

We don't have cub scout camps! Just day camp for the cubs here. The camp-outs come when they turn 11.

Oh the humanity is right! What a nice mom you are.

What a great photo. Good for you for cub scout campouts. Go Jack. Go Lelly. Go Matty.

You are such a brave soul, especially considering there were no facilities! That would be a deal breaker for me.

I kinda like camping except for the facilities situation. When Kenny and I were first married we frequently made over night camping trips. I love being outdoors, sitting around a fire, cooking out, simply entertaining yourself like reading, walking, playing games....but again it is the facilities thing.

Good for you. It is so important to get out of the comfort zone and try some thing new. More power to you! (I bet your son was so proud to have you there.)

yay for snuggling in 2 sleeping bags and thankful for the seasonal weather i am sure!

i am not sure who i love more- the coffee fetching dad or the "watch out" husband. that is a close call!
:)

i will be at GS camp over this weekend with cass. sleeping inside a structure but in my defense, on floors (!?!?) and with seasonal temps-- maybe even snow. yikes i am just hoping for an inside facility. oh my!!!!

will keep you posted on that one. :)
