spt - friends for life

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: What! You too? I thought I was the only one. C.S. Lewis

this statement sums up how i feel about making friends as an adult! i need for there to be that spark, that a-ha moment when i realize that there really is someone out there who gets me.

blogging has brought me in contact with women from all over the world (literally!), and has afforded me the opportunity to *meet* many new friends. honestly, before blogging (BB), i don't think i was really aware that i needed these friends. but, oh, i DO! i spend an embarrassing amount of time reading your blogs, commenting on your daily mundane, composing witty notes to you in my head that i might or might not ever mail.

and to my *new* friend, carlo, i have to say, "what! you too? i thought i was the only one."

my old friend has been in my life since we paddled around the shallow end of the pool. we have always lived at least an hour and a half apart (usually more like six or seven.) you see, she stays put, firmly planted in manhattan, while i travel up and down the eastern seaboard. for more than thirty years, our friendship has been a constant. sometimes latent, but always a constant.

my *old* friend, luisa, & her husband, guy, welcomed twin girls, sasha and natalie, on mother's day! i am so happy for her!

in honor of national new friends/old friends week, i promise to get better with the good mail!! nothing says "i heart you" more than fun, random goodness in the mailbox. thank you both for enriching my life in so many ways!!

guilty pleasure: yeah, tessa!!

Wonderfully put. Old friends are so great, but so are new ones! I feel the same way about blogging -- I never knew I needed all of my new friends! But my life is so much the richer for them. Twins on mother's day! Fabulous. (btw, is it wrong that it makes me a little bit giddy to be the original michelle on your list? :)

What a wonderful spt post! I also feel blessed to have made so many new blogging friends. And you have helped us make a lot more friends because of STP. Thanks Lelly :)

You have expressed my feelings exactly. BB I didn't realize what I was missing. AB (After Blogging) has been an eye opener to me that there are amazing people everywhere and I was missing out on so much by not knowing all of you.

I never knew I needed all these new friends either, but I certainly do too. I also compose notes constantly in my head and they don't always get written or mailed, either that or I can't remember if I just wrote it in my head or in real life.

Twin girls on Mother's Day is just lovely. Isla's birthday is a bit before Mother's Day here, and Erin's birthday is a bit before Father's Day. I've felt v.blessed by that.

Blogging friends. Yes, it pains me that I can't go through the entire links lists on everyone's blogs and send little missives to everyone. It's always a thrill to hear someone's comment on one's ramblings!

Great quote, it is great to find someone like you! I love old friends and even more finding new ones. Still new to the blogging but getting to know some a little better. Congrats to your friend on her twins, what a great mother's day!

I love that C.S. Lewis quote -- I feel exactly that way. I'm glad to have found a friend in you -- what a crazy way to find a friend in the world. I never expected this of blogging. Quite a gift.

and thank you for enriching my life! I'll add another "me too" to your blogging friends feelings. This is definitely a something I didn't know I needed so badly in my life.

I relate:
-to the latent/constant friendship
-to the surprise that I need these blogging friends, kinda like summer camp friends.

I totally thought I had already commented. I'm kind of losing it!

Isn't it crazy how we can find these friendships through blogging? Better yet, thanks to you...we get to let everyone know how much their friendships mean to us.

You're great!
