take out photo challenge

i've been pondering this month's photo challenge for several weeks now, paying special attention to architectural details (thank's for the loose definition, marc!) i even took a few stabs at shots around town. but it wasn't until yesterday, on a quick trip to a wedding in charleston, that inspiration finally struck.

i couldn't really decide on one photo, so i give you three. i don't have photoshop, so there is only some minor editing done here. i'm fairly pleased with the results, and certainly intrigued enough to continue trying my hand at photographing the architectural details in my life!

i would have loved to spend a few hours much closer to the new beautiful bridge over the Cooper River, but had to settle for some faraway shots. i love the contrast of the element of water in the foreground, with the element of metal behind.

i eneded up with about 20 shots of these amazing buffets. i believe i could decorate my entire home with cherry and stainless steel! again, i'm drawn to the pairing of two elements: wood and metal.

a most amazing compass rose laid out in brick.

you've still got a few days to try your hand at this challenge! what are you waiting for?

Great photos! All three. I'm always drawn toward contrasts as well -- like the water and metal.

It's great to know you put so much thought into the architecture challenge. I like the different perspectives of all three photos, and I also love the combo of cherry and stainless steel (especially in a photo--all the beauty and none of the fingerprints to clean).

You've got a good eye there! I LOVE the buffets. I'd love to know more about them.

We've got some good architecture here in Manchester, but I have to admit I still feel a little self-conscious standing and photographing things. People seem to stare at you. I saw ppl staring at a guy last week in our local shopping town because he was taking pix of the progress of our new precinct. The shops are still being built, but the builders had just swathed the frontages in huge sheets of glass. The guy was probably taking some really cool shots of reflections, but ppl were watching him like he was some kind of oddball. *sigh*

Sorry I've been so poor at SPT for so long - I'm with you in spirit!

Very fun I didn't realize you had a monthly challenge! I love playing with the settings on my camera - I did just that this month - look back on my blog at July 14th - I was trying to play with the aperture with the picture of the stone rocks - and a more vivid lighting with the one of the row of houses - take a look!! Thanks

fun photos...architecture is one of my favorite things to photograph. I was in heaven in Italy. Me, my camera, and 1000's of years worth of awesome architecture. But so fun that you found good examples right at home!

I am loving that banister! You did so great on this one! I have pictures taken and just need to sit down and post them- they have been sitting on my memory card for weeks.
