lights, camera, action!

believe it or not, i live in a very film-friendly place. north carolina is known for having a temperate climate (which means more months of outdoor filming). also, between the mountains, the piedmont and the coast (where i live), there are plenty of different backdrops available in n.c. that can mask other locations. films shot in north carolina include dirty dancing & divine secrets of the ya ya sisterhood.

my little town is no exception. i chose to photograph one of my favorites. i give you two self-portraits: one taken just before my camera hit the ground, and the second taken with a borrowed camera.

what? don't you recognize it??? why, it's...

that's right. cue the paula cole intro music, "i don't wanna wait for our lives to be ov-eh-er." i heart pacey. heck, i heart joey.

dawson's *creek* is actually everywhere here. a good portion of dawson's creek is the intracoastal waterway. my town sits on a little bump of the east coast where the cape fear river opens to the atlantic ocean. other movies filmed in southport are crimes of the heart, i know what you did last summer, and summer catch

(all you parents out there looking for a true "G" rated movie, i definitely recommend pirate kids. it is very cute in a low-budget way. and totally safe for everyone in the family.)

i hope you had fun getting out and about for this challenge. check back later today for the recap, and to find out why it sometimes makes sense to keep things simple. oh, and also to learn next week's challenge!!

Ok so I just read Anne's blog and I noticed that you had suggested movies or shows. I guess that I forgot that part so it is not so crazy that we both did scenes from shows.

Ooh, I just read again and saw that you mentioned Dirty Dancing. That was also filmed in Utah, I wonder if any of our Utah friends will have used the Lehi Roller Mill...I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

These have been fun to read...mixes of geography, history & film. So sad, but I love your camera on the biltz photo. Hope you can fix it soon. You're the Tuesday Queen!

I love this and do I dare share why...I am a fan of Dawsons Creek. I only discovered it while sick and pregnant on TBS, but since then i have fallen in love with the characters and story line. I don't watch it anymore. I will admit I am jealous you were there. I hear it is beautiful in NC and have always wanted to visit.

Sorry about your camera.

I love Dawson's creek! I've always wondered where it was filmed.
When we lived in Georgia if I had know that it was filmed in No. Carolina, I would have seeked out the town since I love visiting beautiful inspiring places. The south is a gorgeous place to live.

Thanks for the challenge, even though I just read it today, I know exactly where I am going to take my shot- hopefully, it will be done in time!

Thanks for helping make our lives more fun by having us look at in so many different lights. You are awesome lelly!

So I only listed Cool Runnings on my post, but downtown Calgary is often used as a generic big city in Hollywood movies - no pesky major U.S. city landmarks to get in the way and 'label' the city. North Carolina is on my list of places I'd like to visit someday.

Is it sad to say I knew the dock? Not right off, it took a minute but I loved that show when it was on. Sad I know, I should have been too old for it but it sucked me in.

Love the photos! Cool Post!

I didn't get to SPT this week but I enjoyed your post!

This is a great photo -- kind of sad with the broken/borrowed camera shot. I hope it's fixed soon.

My dad travels to North Carolina for work (furniture) several times a year, and he just raves about how beautiful it is and how nice everyone is.

Anne said...

Clearly I've gotten my dance movies mixed up. It looks like Jenn did use the Lehi Roller Mill for her SPT, but it was Footloose not Dirty Dancing. (Funny that when i was writing that out I mixed them up again.) I guess to me all of those dancing movies are the same!
