eight IS great

5.20.2008
These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever. These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other. These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and as in today, tears of joy. These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children, the hands that will help you to hold your family as one. These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it. And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
(from "The Blessing of the Hands," revised)

we've made it another year.
for so many reasons, quite possibly the most difficult one yet.
but we are here. today. stronger than ever.
reading last year's post brings tears to my eyes, knowing now what we didn't know then.
but we are here. today. stronger than ever.
(i love you, matty! looking forward to another summer...)

Happy Anniversary! I love the poem in your post. I think marriage is better with the right prospective.
We celebrated (I don't know if that is really the right word - I like in your post last year how you say you acknowledged) our 12th anniversary on Wednesday. We have been through the worst year of our marriage (at times I didn't think it would survive, sometimes I still wonder) but here we are still working together to make a better future than the past has ever been.

Happy Anniversary, Lelly! Sometimes marriage (family life in general) can be so exhausting, can't it? Here's to another year for you and your husband :)

Happy Anniversary!

Marriage isn't a fairy tale, but it's worth fighting for. I much rather tough it out, even through a lot of crap, with the man I married 10 1/2 years ago, than ditch him for another man and fight through crap with him, all while dealing with a broken family, an ex-husband, and confused children. There are some things that can't seem to be repaired or tolerated(abuse is one), but for the most part, it is my feeling (but not everyone would agree) that what doesn't kill you in marriage only makes you stronger...or bitter - ha!

Happy Anniversary to both of you. Your Copper post was perfect. I think we all feel that way. Marriage is always a balancing act of working out the kinks.
Have a great weekend!

Lovely sentiments in the Blessing of the Hands. Good choice.

I love the way you're reflecting on your anniversary too. Bits of what you've written remind me of Donald Rumsfeld's 'Unknown':
As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.

Hahaha! I LOOOOVE that!
Blimey, I read your link to your post last year, and clearly remember typing my comment on it - and I can't believe that was a whole year ago! What a panic I'm in now!

*chink* Congratulations on another year, Lelly. xx
