we are the champions!
ok, this is NOT the gingerbread house that jack and i built. this, THIS, is what he brought home from school on friday. for the past four years of montessorri, we have suffered through gingerbread house day. every year, they ask each child to bring in a box of graham crackers and THREE bags of candy. i have not once, in four years, sent him with ANY of these supplies, and yet... each year i am left dealing with the disposal of something like THIS!!
on sunday, however, jack and i set out to conquer the real gingerbread house. and conquer it, we did!!
i have to say, i was THRILLED to see the pre-mixed, totally self-enclosed bag of royal icing. no icing oozing out of the pastry bag in the wrong direction?!? it bode very, very well for this year's gingerbread experience.
here we are, triumphant!
jack said, "we made it without arguing." oh, yes, jack, we did. and it made the experience oh so much sweeter! (i was particularly happy when he called my sister to tell her that we wouldn't need to borrow the glue gun, after all.) (but don't think i wasn't prepared to fire it up!!)

We just used that same gingerbread house kit last night with our kids. We had a great time too, and I must agree that my favourite part of the kit is the self contained royal icing bag. Dirk took it out of the box and started using it and I said, "Don't we have to add water, or microwave it or something?"
Yours turned out very cute.
Great looking gingerbread house :)
I L-O-V-E that post. What a great thing to do together. You handled that very well.
Congrats! Gingerbread house victory!! This gives me hope...
that is fab! just so sweet. looks good enough to eat!
we did our gingerwood house and had a snowslide on the first side of the roof...had to tip the house until it dried. i was thinking of you the entire time I battled with the RI. kinda funny really. but kinda not.
it looks so cute now that it is finished.
ps- thank you for your thoughtfulness. you are so, so sweet.
What a nice little house!
It is really a great thing to do with your kid. Yummy!!!!!
Okay, you totally had us going with your gingerbread disaster stories...you are a PRO! That is the best lookin' gingerbread house I've seen this year.
And three bags of candy?!! Per kid??!! Holy cow...that's a lot of sugar in one little Montessori classroom. Watch out!
That's awesome! We used that kit once and it was the only time I didn't have gingerbread trauma as well. You made it without arguing -- hilarious!
I'm actually on my way today to make some of that cardboard stuff. We'll see. I've never been a fan of making something you can't actually eat:) I think it's my survival instincts:)
